With great joy we invite you to The Upper Room’s Emmaus Ministries Regional Gathering & Celebration. This year’s event will be held in Buffalo, New York on August 3031, 2024. The Regional Gathering offers a way for Emmaus Ministries communities to celebrate, worship, and learn together. No matter which Fourth Day Ministries event you attended, there will be something for you to enjoy at this gathering.

This will be an opportunity to celebrate and affirm persons involved in Emmaus Ministries across the United States. We will participate in worship and conversations, building relationships and networks as siblings in Christ.

There is a small registration fee to help offset the costs of the event.* Each person will be responsible for their transportation and housing (links to recommended hotels below). Dinner on Friday, light breakfast snacks on Saturday, and lunch on Saturday will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you in Buffalo!

*Due to the generosity of donors, The Upper Room is covering half of your registration fee.

Keynote Speaker — Bishop Héctor Burgos-Núñez

The Rev. Bishop Héctor A. Burgos-Núñez has been an active member of the Emmaus community since 2001. He walked in Puerto Rico on their walk #24 at Matthew's table. The 72-hour retreat was transformational in his journey as a disciple, husband, father and a catalyst to his engagement as a servant leader in the church. That weekend, he received the first glimpses of his call to a lifetime of pastoral leadership in the church. He has served in eight walks in different capacities. In 2011, Bishop Burgos served as a co-spiritual director for the founding team of the first Hispanic/Latino Emmaus Retreat in the Northeastern Jurisdiction of the UMC. Today, more than 500 Hispanics/Latinos in the jurisdiction have experienced the Walk to Emmaus in GNJ, EPA, and NY. Today, Bishop Burgos serves as the president of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church, which oversees and guides the Upper Room and the Walk to Emmaus ministries.

The Rev. Bishop Héctor A. Burgos-Núñez was elected Bishop on Nov. 4, 2022, at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church held in College Park, Maryland. He is the first Hispanic-Latino bishop in the Northeastern Jurisdiction and the first Puerto Rican bishop in The United Methodist Church. Bishop Burgos was assigned to serve as the Episcopal leader of the Upper New York Area, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Bishop Burgos holds an M.Div. from the School of Theology at Drew University in Madison, NJ, a bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in Management and Strategic Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico, and a graduate certificate in Information Systems Technology. At the time of his election to the episcopacy, Bishop Burgos was serving as District Superintendent of the Central District of the Greater New Jersey Conference.

Bishop Burgos enjoys in cooking for his family and friends and is known for his famous meat marinades and BBQ ribs. He shares life with his wife, Jazelis Adorno, and their children, Fabián, Joel, Marcos, and Valeria.
